Товч агуулга:This is the first of a projected four-volume series which aims at a com plete translation of the first section of Rashld-al Din’s great world history. This section, which deals with the Turkish and Mongol tribes, Genghis Khan and his ancestors, the successors of Genghis Khan, and finally the Ilkhans of Persia, is the most original section of Rashîd-alDin’s unique achievement. It is based on first-hand information and native sources, much of which is now lost. The second section of Rashid al-Din’s history represents the author’s successful attempt at writing for the first time a universal history. Beginning with Adam and the Patriarchs, this section “ recounts the history of the pre-Islamic kings of Persia; of Muhammad and the Caliphate down to its extinction by the Mongols in 1258; of the postMuhammadan dynasties of Persia; of Oghuz and his descendants, the Turks; of the Chinese; of the Jews; of the Franks and their Emperors and Popes; and of the Indians, with a detailed account of Buddha and Buddhism.” The translation of the above section will follow the translation of the first in the Persian Heritage Series.
