How does coordination work in different forms of interaction and institutions? These are questions hidden behind the term governance, which is increasingly used in the social sciences, law and economics. This handbook conveys the theoretical and analytical basics of the concept and provides an overview of important areas of application. Forms and mechanisms as well as variants of the dynamics of governance are presented. In addition, various disciplinary and theoretical perspectives are discussed. A third group of contributions deals with governance at local, regional, national, European and global levels and in important functional areas of politics and society as well as with questions of democracy and multi-level coordination.
