Why the American students score lower than many other countries in international tests? Why the American students are not interested in science and math? Why their scores are not so high? This book discusses about the similarities and differences between two countries: Finland and the United States. Finland has scored high in all the international assessments. The American students have got an average or below average scores in international assessments between the students. The current debate in educational issues during the U.S. presidential campaign in 2012 has also addressed this subject. Therefore, this is a timely topic and interests different parties not only because of the state of education but also because of the future competition between countries. How will the United States be competitive in the future if the students are not interested in learning math and science, or if they cannot use their knowledge in real life situations?
