The World history of Rashid al Din A study of the Royal Asiatic Society manuscript - London Faber & Faber 1978 - 40 p., [19] leaves of plates : ill. ; 29 cm

ГФ 20896

Professor David Talbot Rice of the University of Edinburgh planned to publish two companion monographs on The World History of Rashid al-Din, based on manuscripts in Edinburgh and the Royal Asiatic Society. He completed most of the first volume before his death in 1972, and it was later published by Edinburgh University Press in 1976. The second volume was taken up by Faber and Faber, with financial support from a fund established to promote British research on Iranian art. The Royal Asiatic Society manuscript is especially valuable because its miniatures were created in Rashid al-Din’s own scriptorium in Tabriz under his supervision. These paintings are important for understanding the development of Persian miniature art and the influence of Far Eastern and Christian traditions. The book thus contributes to both art history and the study of Persian cultural heritage.
